TM292LCi repair is on the way

As expected, Purolator picked up my TM292LCi for repair this afternoon. Everything went fine so far and I hope the fine will turn to be excellent at the end. I will start counting days ... 7-10 days to get it back

Problems reported are:
1. wireless not working (function-wide)
2. wireless/bluetooth light always off (front side)
3. wireless switch not working (left side)
4. p1, p2 keys don't work (keyboard)
5. s-video connector not working (rear side)
6. when adjusting volume/bright, screen indicator doesn't show up

special instruction:
Please try not to wipe out my harddrive.

Neighbour farewell party

One of our neighbours Ken and Donna sold their house and are moving up to a new house. Last Friday Elic (or Eric) came to invite me to the party. We had our first party in Canyon Meadows at Ken and Donna's house. It's about two or three years ago they renovated their house and held a get-to-know-each-other party. It was nice and I got a chance to be in a old style Canadian party, almost all my neighbours have been living in their house for more than 30 years. That's where I got the impression that people here don't think North-West is a great place to live simply because it's too windy. The farewell party on Saturday was held by Roy and Betty, they live right at the corner of our block. People are still kind and nice. Although I've seen most of them but I have trouble memorize their names. Richard is another name I remember because he is like Richard gear with his whole-white hair (not because of old). He is the boy friend of Elic's wife's daughter. I told Elic that Lilian is coming back at the end of May and I will take her to say hello to him when she is back.

A fix appointment has been made for my Acer TM292LCi

I called Acer USA today and set up an ITW (International Travel Warrenty) service for my TM292LCi laptop. The whole process was presenantly smooth. It's not long, no annoying waiting on the line, every question was direct to the problem, oh god, this is the best service call I've been made. Now I got all the information I need to prepare my laptop for repairing, a purolator pick-up has been set up on the coming Monday. Everything should be covered by the warrenty. All I have to do is to prepare my laptop and have it picked up, then wait for 7-10 days to get a fixed laptop back!

I will wait to see how well they can do to repair my laptop. I hope everything that follows is as good as the phone call!

Door locks and windows have been fixed for my Toyota Camry

I brought in my Camry to Toyota Canyon Meadows for spring service. I am happy that the door locks and windows are fixed in this service. They have been broken since last December and it's really inconvenient that I have to open the door in order to open the window. Also I have to get in my car to unlock the other doors so that then people can get in. The fix turns out to be easy by just replace the 30 AMP fuse while I tried but can't find where the broken fuse was. The technician gave me a message that they can't find anything that will cause the fuse to break and want me to notice which action I do will make the fuse break again (maybe some circuit is short). Including everything, the bill is $291 in total. Good price and good service I received from toyota again!

Something wrong with my Acer Laptop today

While everything was working fine until I went to bed last night, this morning when I woke up, I found my Acer TravelMate 292 couldn't connect to wireless router. I inspected my laptop did some investigation, I found that the wireless card for some reason it's turned off, and even I switched the wireless on/off switch, it didn't make any differences. I also found the two programmable function keys P1 and P2 were not working neither! I think there is some hardware failure in my Laptop. How bad it is since I bought this laptop last August and it's only a couple of months old. I think I have to get it fixed and also fix the problem of TV connector not working issue since I bought this laptop.

The bad thing is the Acer global warrenty card is still in Taiwan and I don't know if there is a place I can send my laptop to in Calgary. Anyway, I have to find it out... Today is not a good day for my laptop.

I "fixed" my furnace !!

I'm so proud of myself! Tonight my furnace suddenly stopping working and wouldn't light. Since I knew nothing about how furnace works, I went to the Internet and search information about how to troubleshoot the problem. Following the instruction, I confirmed that the thermostat is set right, the pilot light is good, thermocoupler is good, transformer is good, the last thing would go wrong would be gas volve, which is expensive. However, I didn't give up and I studied the electric circuit of my furnace. I found there is an additional component "vent safety sw" in between transformer and gas volve. I guessed it should be a safety switch but I didn't know how to make sure it is good. Thus I turned off power and used multi-tester to test it and found the circuit was open, then I used my hand to probe and found there is a small button could be pushed. I pushed the button and the circuit became back to close. And the furnace is working again! Good Job, Samuel.
